A 45-year-old Pahoa man was arrested early Monday following a domestic dispute Sunday night in Pahoa.

Around 4:15 a.m. Monday, police arrested the man on suspicion of second-degree terroristic threatening, first-degree arson, third-degree assault and first-degree promoting a detrimental drug, according to the Hawaii Police Department. He remains in police custody while detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section continue the investigation. West Hawaii Today is not identifying him because he hasn’t been charged.

The charges stem from an 8 p.m. police and fire department response to structure fire at a Hawaiian Beach home, according to police. Upon arrival, they discovered a house engulfed in flames.

Police determined that the occupants, a 41-year-old Pahoa woman and the man facing charges, had exited the home prior to the fire and were not injured, according to police. Investigation revealed the man had allegedly threatened to set the house on fire.

Police found the man at a nearby home with a head injury unrelated to the structure fire. He was taken to Hilo Medical Center for treatment and arrested after being discharged, according to police.
