McKinley and Hawaii Prep earned victories Thursday in the first round of the Ka Makani Girls Basketballl Tip-Off Classic.

McKinley and Hawaii Prep earned victories Thursday in the first round of the Ka Makani Girls Basketballl Tip-Off Classic.

McKinley defeated Kohala 41-25, and HPA defeated Kealakehe 61-15 in the preseason tournament held at the Hawaii Prep campus in Waimea.

In the first game, McKinley pulled away steadily behind Laika Aragon’s 14 points. Tezrah Antonio led the Cowgirls with 12 points.

In the second game, Ka Makani jumped out to a 14-1 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back. Ula Brostek led the way with 14 points, and Eliyah Fernandez added 12.

Kehaulani Lee led Kealakehe with five points.
