Ace raises funds for children’s organization
Ace Hardware’s 2012 Children’s Miracle Network campaign, which ran through October, raised $20,000 for the organization. Ace stores asked customers if they would like to donate to the organization, with each donor receiving a mobile he could write his name on and stick on the store’s wall.
The money raised this year represented a 30 percent increase over last year’s total.
Wintner joins
Sea Shepherd board
Robert Wintner has accepted a position on the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society board of directors. “Snorkel Bob” Wintner is known for his defense of marine species and habitat.
Wintner has championed the cause of reef fish for many years.
Honey challenge winners announced
This year’s Hawaiian Natural Honey Challenge included award categories expanded to reflect varietal types of honey, the category of comb honey was added and multifloral blends were divided into three types — light, amber and dark. A total of 52 entries were submitted by producers from around the state.

Crafting event slated at Captain Cook nursery
Tropical Edibles Nursery will hold a “Crafting Fair” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 8 at its facility in Captain Cook. Staff will be on hand to offer ideas, assistance and plant material to aid in creating gifts and decorations for the holidays.
Several tables will be set up to make holiday candles, angel and snowman ornaments, herbal kitchen wreaths, tea collections, as well as decorative pots for edible plants. At noon, a salad from the nursery will be offered for those who bring a potluck dish. The event is free and all are welcome to come and get ideas that include local plant material for the holidays.
A $5 donation is requested for each item created and taken home. The donation is to cover supplies, information and instruction offered.

Queens’ Marketplace continues to grow and evolve, with new and expanding businesses. Hawaii artist Wishard brings his evocative oil paintings and an eclectic group of fine Hawaii artists such as Kathy Long, Victoria McCormick, Lynn Capell, Mary Koski and Ed Kayton to his gallery.

Blue Wilderness Dive Adventures expands its retail space with a selection of underwater cameras and equipment, diver’s watches, dive and snorkel gear and beach necessities from the best names in diving. It also offers ocean adventures and dive and snorkel equipment, surfboards and boogie boards for rent.
