A 3rd Circuit Court judge threw out a defamation lawsuit against Hawaii County Monday.
Judge Elizabeth Strance ruled in favor of Hawaii County, concurring with the county’s argument that any injuries Elections Division Chief Pat Nakamoto suffered because of alleged defamation — remarks made about Nakamoto and an ongoing county investigation into possible misuse of county facilities — would be covered under worker’s compensation.
Nakamoto’s attorney, Ted Hong, said he plans to appeal the ruling.
