Police arrested 33 drivers for suspected drunken driving between Nov. 12 and Sunday; seven were involved in traffic accidents and three were under age 21.

Police have made 1,305 suspected DUI arrests this year compared with 1,296 during the same period in 2011, according to the Hawaii Police Department.

South Hilo officers arrested 16 motorists while Kona officers arrested 14. South Kohala officers arrested two motorists and Puna officers arrested one.

There have been 1,287 major accidents this year compared with 1,226 during the same period last year.

To date, there have been 36 traffic fatalities on Big Island public roadways, compared with 18 fatalities during the same period in 2011, according to police. To date, nine of those fatalities were related to drugs, four to alcohol and 10 were a combination of both.
