Walter Allan Sturm, 82, of Kailua-Kona died Oct. 4 at his residence. Born July 22, 1930, in New York, he was an engineer and computer designer for the federal government, a teacher at the University of California at Los Angeles and member of the Kona Bridge Club and former bridge champion, a Navy veteran, a sharpshooter and member of the National Rifle Association.

Private services were held.

He is survived by wife, Mary Sturm of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Nancy (David Campbell) Sturm of Los Angeles, Diana (Sam) Hunt of San Francisco; stepsons, Garey Rivera of Kona Palisades, Richard Rivera of Kailua-Kona; stepdaughter, Geraldine (Lorrin) Aiwohi of Kauai; brother, Roger Sturm of the mainland; several grandchildren; 13 stepgrandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
