Robert Yet Sun “Steamy” Chow, 90, of Hilo, died Nov. 1 in the Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama facility in Hilo. Born March 19, 1922, in Hilo, he retired from the Hawaii County Police Department as a motor patrolman; was a claims adjuster for the Pacific and Hartford Insurance companies; manager of the Kress Store Building in Hilo; member of the Young Men’s Christian Association, Hilo Y’s Men and Women Service Club, Chinese Civic Association, United Community Church, Downtown Improvement Association, Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii and Komohana Kumiai; co-founder of the Pacific Tsunami Museum; past-president of Hawaii Island Adult Care and a kupuna at Connections Charter School in Hilo.

Friends may call at 1 p.m. Nov. 8 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a service. Family requests no flowers.

He is survived by wife, Lily Chow of Hilo; sons, Allan (Andrea) Chow of Honolulu, Lindsey (Susan) Chow of Independence, Mo.; brothers, Leonard (Gertrude) Chow of Hilo, Donald (Ethel) Chow of Honolulu; sisters, Margaret Mochizuki of Los Angeles, Blossom Lee of Las Vegas, Bette Chow of Honolulu; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces.
