Queen Liliuokalani Trust has completed a 650-foot road that connects Loloku and Kaiwi streets in Kailua-Kona.

Trust Vice President LeeAnn Crabbe said Friday the two-lane road, which features a bike lane, sidewalk and overhead lighting, will cost about $1.8 million to complete. It will eventually be dedicated to the county.

The road, on which work began earlier this year, was not part of the original plans for trust-owned lands in the area, Crabbe said. In 2008, with the downturn of the economy, two leased lots on the mauka side of the Loloku Street BMW dealership were returned to the trust.

The trust subsequently began planning and design efforts. It also subdivided lots on both sides of the road for future use, she said.
