Peoples Advocacy for Trails Hawaii held its Run for the Dry Forest this past Saturday, with all proceeds going to help preserve the last of the dry forests in Hawaii.

The event took place at Puu Waawaa, and the courses wove up and around the cinder cone.

In the 10k, the runners began by making a loop around the reservoir before heading up the three-mile course to the top of Puu Waawaa. Once at the top, the athletes took in the beautiful view before heading down the hill for the last three miles.

Billy Barnett won the 10k in an incredible time of 44 minutes, 55 seconds. Barnett proved that with determination, no mountain is too steep to get over.

Patrick Bahen earned second place with a time of 55:38, and Jason Shepard took third (56:27).

The 5k course led the runners around the reservoir, down the road and up a few hills before arriving at the finish line.

Alan Ryan claimed first place in an outstanding time of 19:27. Christopher Smith earned second place at 22:01, and third place went to John Hylas with a time of 23:53.

Congratulations to all who raced at the Run for the Dry Forest.

This past Sunday, Frozen Pea Productions held the Thrash and Dash Biathlon. This race included a 1/3-mile swim in Kailua Bay and a two-mile run on Alii Drive.

Despite the tsunami evacuation the night before, more than 80 dedicated pea-tastic athletes showed up to join in on the fun.

Girl power outran the guys at the finish.

Bree Wee broke her previous record of 19:06 with a time of 18:55, finishing 1:59 ahead of her closest competitor. Sarah Chang took second (20:54), and Kristen Drost (22:33) earned third for the women and 10th overall.

Chris Prater took third overall and first for the men, finishing in 21:25. Michael DeCarli (21:34) placed second, and Bailey Byrne was just behind in third place at 21:37.

For the split peas, the team of Marissa Bryant-Manago and Kari Van Mols raced into first place with a combined time of 20:34. Wonder Woman and Tiffany Nakamura earned second place (25:39). Cat Woman and Mary Collier earned third ( 25:40).

Kiana Wiley was first for the pea-wees, finishing the shorter course in 15:30. Second place went to Riley Blaber (17:02), and Ciara Blaber was third (18:26).

For the pea-wee split peas, the team of Wonder Woman and Alexis Leao finished first with a time of 19:13. Second went to the team of Superman and Camron Leao (19:16). Cat Woman and Glenda Freitas earned third (22:12).

Congratulations to all who came and raced in what turned out to be a Pea-nami Thrash and Dash Biathlon.
