D.G. “Andy” Anderson sold the former Waimea Country Club for an undisclosed sum this month.
Anderson confirmed the sale Tuesday afternoon. He said the buyer, whose name he could not remember, was planning to run a small farm on the golf course, which was sold in a 239-acre parcel. The buyer also owns several hundred acres elsewhere in Waimea, he added.
A message left for the buyer’s real estate agent was not immediately returned Tuesday.
Anderson said he paid a little more than $2 million for the course several years ago.
“We didn’t make money on it,” he said. “It was an awful drain. I fell in love with it.”
Anderson closed the 18-hole, 6,646-yard, par-72 course near the 52-mile marker of Mamalahoa Highway in July. The closure meant the loss of eight full-time and two part-time employees.
In July, Anderson said the course had lost $150,000 a year as a “conservative estimate.” At the time, Anderson said the asking price for the property, which is zoned agricultural, would be $3 million to $3.5 million or so.
No additional information about the sale was available Tuesday.
