The Agricultural Leadership Foundation of Hawaii has posted on its website recruitment and application information about the next class of its Agricultural Leadership Program. The application deadline is Nov. 16.
The 16-month program, January 2013 to May 2014, includes seven three- to four-day seminars across the state and a two-week trip to the mainland. Through the program, participants will develop the knowledge, relationships, tools and skills that will enable them to be more successful in their work and other community endeavors. Twelve applicants working in agricultural, natural resource management and rural communities will be selected. The foundation will hold a series of informational webinars about the program — at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, 10 a.m. Friday and noon Nov. 7.

Veterans town hall meeting Friday
A veterans town hall meeting, with representatives from the VA Pacific Islands Health Care System, VA Clinic, Vet Center, VBA and Hawaii Office of Veterans Services, is planned from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday in the Kealakehe Intermediate School cafeteria. Veterans’ issues, benefits and services will be discussed in a question-and-answer format.

Dim sum cooking class offered Saturday
A dim sum cooking class led by Abby Golden is slated from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Hale Halawai in Kailua-Kona.
Students will learn some Chinese-style pupu recipes, including pork pot stickers, garlicky greens dumplings and mini baked egg rolls with red chili, hot mustard and soy ginger dipping sauces. These dishes can be served as appetizers or together as a dinner of small plates.
The $15 class fee includes recipes and food tasting.

Flea market slated Saturday in Waimea
The First Saturday Flea Market at New Hope Waimea Gym takes place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 3. The indoor market is free to the public. It is located at Church Row in Waimea. Offered are antiques, collectibles, crafts, plants, Hawaiiana, clothes, books, food, art, rummage sale items, jewelry, rare bottles, toys and other items.
Proceeds from this month’s market benefit the gymnasium improvement fund at New Hope Waimea.
