HPR transmitter presentation planned

Hawaii Public Radio President and General Manager Michael Titterton is the special guest for the 5:15 p.m. Thursday Waimea Community Association town meeting at the Waimea School cafeteria. Titterton will talk about a transmitter HPR plans to install, possibly by the end of 2012, which will allow listeners in Waimea, Waikoloa, North Kohala and the northern communities of Hamakua to hear HPR-2 clearly.

Permits are in place and equipment has been purchased. More fundraising is needed to complete the installation and cover first-year overhead costs. Titterton will discuss these items, as well as the new programming the transmitter will bring to North Hawaii.

Also on the agenda is a preview of the 2013 Legislature by state Rep. Cindy Evans, an update on the Hawaii Island YMCA by Fred Yamashiro, as well as information about the Waimea Christmas Twilight Parade and Big Island Giving Tree Project, which kicks off with a 5 p.m. tree lighting Nov. 29 at Parker School’s Barbara Hall.

The meeting will also include nomination of candidates for the association’s secretary and treasurer. A nominations committee will recommend candidates for the two-year position; nominations will be accepted from the floor and then be closed. The election will be held Jan. 10.

For information, call Patti Cook at 937-2833 or visit waimeatown.org. For more information about HPR, visit hawaiipublicradio.org/khph-1.
