COLUMBIA, S.C. — Marcus Lattimore had his right knee dislocated and sustained ligament damage against Tennessee, yet South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier believes the junior could eventually return to football.
Spurrier visited Lattimore on Sunday and said the running back displayed a good attitude about his condition. Spurrier said team doctor Jeffrey Guy was able to put Lattimore’s knee back in place soon after he was taken from the field to the hospital.
Notre Dame latest to pass Oregon in BCS standings
Now Notre Dame is ahead of Oregon in the BCS standings.
The Fighting Irish became the latest team to move past Oregon on Sunday, taking third place behind Alabama and Kansas State.
The Ducks remained fourth.
Alabama is locked in at No. 1, and if the Crimson Tide can keep winning it will play for its third championship in four years. The Wildcats (.9400), Fighting Irish (.9147) and Ducks (.9136) need to remain unbeaten, and keep an eye on each other.

ISTANBUL — Serena Williams beat Maria Sharapova 6-4, 6-3 on Sunday to win the WTA Championships for the third time and finish the year with another title, although not the top ranking.
Williams ended the season with a 59-4 record. Since her first-round loss at the French Open, the American is 31-1, winning Wimbledon, the Olympic gold medal and the U.S. Open.

BASEL, Switzerland — Juan Martin del Potro took Roger Federer’s Swiss Indoors title on Sunday, beating the hometown favorite 6-4, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (3) in the final.
Ferrer beats Dolgopolov
to win 3rd Valencia Open
VALENCIA, Spain — David Ferrer won the Valencia Open for the third time, beating Alexandr Dolgopolov 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 on Sunday.
Ferrer also won on the hard courts at the City of Arts and Sciences in 2008 and 2010. He lost the final in 2005 when the tournament was played on clay.
