The Pacific West Conference women’s soccer match was played at UH-Hilo’s baseball field.

Evans scored her goal at the 34:58 mark to give the Seasiders (8-4-2 overall, 6-3-2 PacWest) a 1-0 lead they carried into the intermission. Then at the 54:46 mark, Soelberg scored her goal to make it 2-0 against the host Vulcans (4-11, 2-10).

Seasider Kami Strait also had an assist to help fuel the visitors’ attack.

BYUH goalies Megan McCain and McKenzie Empey combined on the shutout. Empey had a save.

Vulcan goalie Breegan Saller went the distance, recording three saves. The Seasiders outshot the Vulcans 4-2.

“We had some opportunities in the first half, and they didn’t work out,” UH-Hilo coach Unity Beddingfield said. “We kind of lost our rhythm and couldn’t get it back. But the girls worked really hard and fought all the way to the end.”

BYUH rallies past UH-Hilo men

Zak Epplette and Chad Nahoolewa each scored goals off corner kicks in the final 2 1/2 minutes to lift BYU-Hawaii to a stunning 2-1 win over the Vulcans.

The Vulcans (3-8-2 overall, 3-7-2 PacWest) rode Xavier Fuerte’s first-half goal to a 1-0 lead down to the final minutes. But Epplette tied the match at 1-1 off Brett Waters’ corner kick, then Nahoolewa scored the game-winner on a header off another Waters corner kick to put the Seasiders (4-7-2, 3-7-1) in front with two seconds left.

Fuerte scored his goal at the 21:41 mark in the first half, an 18-yarder off a James Yamane assist.

UH-Hilo goalie Luis Romero recorded two saves.

BYUH goalie Trevor Lesueur also went the distance, collecting five saves.

The Vulcans outshot the Seasiders 10-8.

Vulcan women 12th at PacWest cross-country championship

The University of Hawaii at Hilo women’s placed 12th in the Pacific West Conference cross-country championships Saturday the Kahuku Golf Course on Oahu.

Nadia Ramirez led the UH-Hilo squad with a 40th-place finish (20:42.25) on the five-kilometer course. Also competing for the Vulcans were Keri Fujiwara (57th, 21:32.05), Jordan Bledsoe (62nd, 21:51.85), Justina Wood (79th, 32:59.55) and Hillary Ramos (87th, 27:57.85).

Academy of Art senior Jenny Bergren won the race 18:09.35.

Azusa Pacific won the team title with 62 points. It was followed by California Baptist (74), Grand Canyon (86), Dixie State (111), BYU-Hawaii (140), Hawaii Pacific (151), Point Loma Nazarene (156), Academy of Ar t (172), Chaminade (273), Fresno Pacific (292), Holy Names (310), UH-Hilo (325), Domincan (355) and Notre Dame de Namur (371)
