The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Honolulu has issued a tsunami warning for the Big Island.
The first waves are expected to reach West Hawaii shores around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the center.
The warning, issued at 7:09 p.m. follows a magnitude-7.7 earthquake that occurred at 5:04 p.m. in the Queen Charlotte Islands area off British Columbia, Canada, according to the center. Initially, the center said no tsunami had been generated, however, the warning was issued at 7:09 p.m.
