One lane of Mamalahoa Highway remains closed following a reported multi-car accident near mile marker 104 in Keokea, South Kona.

The crash, reported about 2 p.m., occurred near the intersection of Tobacco Road, according to the Hawaii Police Department. The partial closure is located near Telephone Exchange Road

The crash reportedly involved a Jeep carrying five people that apparently hit a telephone pole, causing the pole to shear in half and land on the vehicle, according to the Hawaii Fire Department. The crash also involved a privately owned water truck that sustained a blown tire and damage. Initial reports listed a third vehicle being involved, however, the department had no information on the vehicle.

The five Jeep occupants, one of which was a teenager, were transported to Kona Community Hospital. Three were listed as stable and two with minor injuries.
