Holiday show auditions scheduled for Sunday

Auditions for Volcano Art Center’s “Ho-Ho-Ho Volcano Comedy Show” are open to all ages and levels of experience and slated from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village.

Bring props, music and anything else needed for a three-minute audition. Holiday themes are appreciated, but not mandatory.

The show will be presented Dec. 15 and 16. Call the center at 967-8222 for more information.

Aehegma to present Art of the Art Business workshop Nov. 12

The Waimea Arts Council will host a hands-on workshop, The Art of the Art Business, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Firehouse Gallery in Waimea. Attendees will learn how to develop an art portfolio, an artist’s statement, an exhibition, press releases and other marketing materials. Participants will learn ways to interact with the public and share the meaning of their art, as well as sales techniques and sales closing methods.

Aelbert Aehegma, who has been involved in exhibiting and “doing the business of art” for 35 years, will be the workshop presenter. His background includes both national and international exhibits; Aehegma has been trained in corporate art sales with Dolphin Galleries, Kahn Gallery and Pacific Fine Art Gallery.

Workshop participants are encouraged to bring photos of themselves at any age, photos of their work, copies of press releases, resumes, exhibition lists or scrapbooks. Participants are requested to bring a laptop computer, if they have one; a bag lunch is recommended. Drinks and snacks will be provided.

The workshop requires registration; class-size is limited to 10 participants. Cost is $195 for Waimea Arts Council members; $220 for nonmembers. Annual membership dues are $25. To inquire or register, call Jay West at 885-7812.

Met’s ‘Otello’ screened Saturday at Makalapua

Hollywood Theatres and the Hoku Concert Series present “Otello,” the Shakespearean masterpiece with Rene Fleming.

The performance of the Metropolitan Opera will be broadcast at 12:55 p.m. Saturday at Makalapua Cinema.

Wyland hosts Halloween exhibition

Wyland Oceanfront Gallery is hosting “Hawaiiween,” its inaugural Halloween art exhibition, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. today.

Big Island favorite Brad “Tiki Shark” Parker will unveil scary art created especially for this event. Parker’s entire line of artwork is on display at the gallery.

Gallery staff members will be in costumes depicting characters from Parker’s artwork.

The event will include special pricing on all artwork on display at this event. Wine, cheese, soft drinks and pupu will be served.

The gallery is located at 75-5770 Alii Drive at Waterfront Row.
