Friends of the Library Waikoloa Region will hold a meet-and-greet for the artists and writers of “This We Believe: Hawaii Island, Waikoloa Region” at 6 p.m. Friday in the Community Room in Waikoloa Village — follow the signs for the golf course and Banjy’s Restaurant. Community members are invited. Pupu and soft drinks will be offered at the informal gathering.
The book is available for purchase at Gallery of Great Things in Waimea, Harbor Gallery in Kawaihae, Kona Bay Books, Kona Stories, Waikoloa Golf Pro Shop, Waikoloa Mailboxes and Waikoloa Village Association.
Fruit Lovers Fest Saturday in Honaunau
Fruit Lovers Fest is planned from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at One Island Sustainable Living Center in Honaunau.
The event includes a presentation by Jim West, a purveyor of tropical seeds, who will share information on rare and familiar tropical fruits. A fruit tree pruning workshop is planned from 4 to 5 p.m., followed by music with Lorenzo and fruit tastings. The event continues with a potluck from 6 to 7 p.m. then concludes with presentations by West and Ken Love of Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers.

Ohana expo slated Saturday in Waikoloa
The West Hawaii Ohana Expo is slated from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the Grand Ballroom at the Hilton Waikoloa Village.
The event features a keiki Halloween costume contest, baby crawling contest, pumpkin decorating and face painting. Businesses and crafters will showcase their services and products at the expo; entertainment includes performances by Sasha Dance Studio, West Hawaii Dance Academy and Waimea Zumba, as well as three “mini” women’s roller derby bouts.
The Hilton Waikoloa Village will also offer “Haunted Canal Boat Rides” for $1; free to keiki in costume.

Buddhist scholar to speak Saturday
Orgyen Zangpo Rinpoche will discuss Khenpo Jigme Phuntsok’s commentary on the path to enlightenment, “Ambrosia of My Heart,” from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Paleaku Peace Center.
Rinpoche is a teacher of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. His primary educator, Phuntsok, was one of the most influential lamas of the 20th century.
Admission to Rinpoche’s Saturday presentation is $60. He will lead a fire ceremony, “Eliminating and Pacifying Obstacles,” from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday. Admission to the ceremony is $20. Rinpoche is also available for private consultations and home and land blessing ceremonies.

Waltz workshop offered Saturday
The Kona Ballroom Dance Club will hold a waltz workshop led by professional dance instructor Lance Oliver on Saturday at the Fit Zone inside The Club in Kailua-Kona.
Club members pay $10; nonmember admission is $15. A partner is not necessary to attend the class.
The Kona group, in association with the Waimea Ballroom Dance Club, will hold the second annual Night of Elegance on Nov. 3 at the Hilton Waikoloa Village Water’s Edge Ballroom.

Lutheran Church celebrates 30 years
Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity will celebrate its 30th anniversary at a 10:15 a.m. service Sunday at the Lako Street church. The celebration continues with a reception, silent auction and entertainment from 5 to 8 p.m. at Sheraton Kona Resort and Spa at Keauhou Bay.

Akaka to headline Sunday Kahilu benefit
Cultural historian Danny “Kaniela” Akaka and friends will share stories and music beginning at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Kahilu Theatre in Waimea. A benefit for the theater, the event will include a silent auction and refreshments available for purchase.
Tickets cost $25 for adults and $10 for children 10 and younger and are available by calling 885-6868 or visiting the box office between 9 a.m. and noon Monday through Friday. Early ticket buyers will be granted premiere seating.
