Bernard “Sonny” Calvo, 72, of Hilo, died Oct. 16 at home. Born Sept. 7, 1940m in North Kohalam he was a former employee of the Department of Transportation, 14th Coast Guard District Base Honolulu Public Works Division as a grounds maintenance worker, messenger for the former Gov. John Burns office and Goodwill Industries of Honolulu and a former mechanic in North Kohala.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Oct. 27 at Panaewa Park, Haili’s Tent, 33 Noeau St., Hilo, for a celebration of life. Friends may call at 8 a.m. Nov. 3 at Hawi Sacred Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. Mass. Urn burial follows at the Hawi Catholic Cemetery. Family requests casual attire be worn. Flowers are welcomed.

He is survived by wife, Priscilla Calvo of Hilo; daughter, Moana (Junior) Faleao of Hilo; son, Leighton (Cari Ann Luis) Calvo of Hilo; four grandchildren; sisters, Dora Caravalho and Madeline (Stanley) Gonsalves, both of North Kohala, Mary Anderson and Carmen Murai, both of Oahu; brother, William Alpiche of Oahu; numerous nephews and nieces.
