Mama’s House Thrift Shop and 12 Step Bookstore announces a new take on holiday shopping with the “Spooktacular Christmas Extravaganza” Oct. 20, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Thelma Parker Gym in Waimea. Plus, as a gift to community members who send clothes to family off-island, Mama’s House is offering thousands of free clothing items for men, women and children.
“We have so much,” said Beth Mehau, executive director of Mama’s House umbrella nonprofit The Pantry. “Many people around the island send clothing items to their families in the Philippines, Guam, the Marshall Islands and elsewhere. We’d be thrilled to give it away and keep this volume out of our landfills.”
In addition to the clothing giveaway, Mama’s House will feature a wide array of some new and many gently used holiday items for sale—from Halloween costumes for children and adults, to Christmas decorations, holiday linens, lights, trees, toys and much more. There will also be a selection of island arts and crafts for one-of-a-kind gifts. (Crafters please call 887-2289).
At the “Spooktacular,” tickets will be available for Ledward Kaapana & Friends in concert — a fundraiser for the Ohana in the Arts at Waimea Artists’ Guild, Nov. 3, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Kanu o ka Aina New Century Public Charter School. Admission; $15 for adult, $9 for youth 4-12, with keiki 3 and under are free, includes chili, rice, salad bar and beverages, a live concert and an arts market 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is an alcohol/drug free event, project of The Pantry dba Waimea Artists’ Guild.

Hawaii Preparatory Academy’s Ohana Association invites families to its 21st annual Pumpkin Patch Festival on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This festival, located on HPA’s Upper Campus at the corner of Kohala Mountain Road and Kawaihae Road in Waimea, continues to be one of the favorite events of the year. With free entry and parking, this year’s event features a huge pumpkin patch with more than 500 pumpkins, games and prizes, food booths, a silent auction and great live entertainment.
The silent auction will include special trips, gift items, fabulous collectibles, rounds of golf, fine dining, resort stays, island adventures, a variety of art, gift baskets and more. The auction closes promptly at 2 p.m.
Live, free entertainment will be featured throughout the day. Spectators will enjoy performances by Lorenzo’s Army, Honokaa High School Jazz Band and Te Ea O Te Turama Tahitian Dance and HPA student performances. Tommy “Kahikina” Ching will be the emcee.
