MOSCOW — Caroline Wozniacki advanced to the quarterfinals of the Kremlin Cup on Wednesday by beating Urszula Radwanska of Poland 6-1, 6-3.
Sofia Arvidsson of Sweden upset second-seeded Marion Bartoli 6-3, 6-0 in the second round.
Wozniacki will play defending champion Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia, who advanced to the final eight with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria.
In men’s second-round play, Malek Jaziri of Tunisia upset the third-seeded 2010 champion Viktor Troicki of Serbia 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.
Eighth-seeded Tatsuma Ito of Japan defeated Russian qualifier Konstantin Kravchuk7-6 (7), 2-6, 6-3, while Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic rallied past fifth-seeded Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Hradecka into Luxembourg quarters
LUXEMBOURG — Lucie Hradecka of the Czech Republic beat teenage qualifier Annika Beck of Germany 6-1, 6-1 on Wednesday to reach the quarterfinals of the Luxembourg Open.
Hradecka has never won a singles title but was runner-up in Quebec City last month. She next faces either second-seeded Julia Goerges of Germany or Romania’s Monica Niculescu.
Lourdes Dominguez Lino of Spain made her first quarterfinals since February in Monterrey, Mexico, beating Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia 6-2, 6-3.
Almagro, Hewitt reach Stockholm quarters
STOCKHOLM — Nicolas Almagro of Spain advanced to the quarterfinals of the Stockholm Open, beating Marius Copil of Romania 6-4, 7-6 (4) Wednesday.
The 27-year old Almagro, who was given a wild-card entry into the tournament, advanced after earning the only break of the match in the first set.
He will next face former No. 1 LIeyton Hewitt of Australia, who beat Jarkko Nieminen of Finland 7-6 (2), 2-6, 6-4 in a match where both players struggled to hold serve. Nieminen finished with more breaks — six to five — but Hewitt had three in the decider.
