Konawaena middle

Liberate our library

Eager students of Konawaena Middle School raced to the library to discover its blue doors shut.

The tax dollars from students’ parents and island residents are going to waste. The laptop computers sit still, the printer untouched, the books are unable to give their words to the minds of the students.

Why is this? Konawaena Middle School has no librarian. The library is now being used as a teacher training room.

Believe it or not, this affects the students.

We have no books to read. No access to the computers to work on projects or to look up valuable information on. These things are very important.

We need these tools to help us with our educations.

We need help getting our library back.

Not a happy customer

I read Robert Brogan’s comments in WHT Oct. 11 regarding HELCO’s current ad campaign and agree with what he had to say about HELCO’s on-going ad campaign regarding its high rates.

I have another bone to pick about its billing.

I’ve always paid my bill on time, but last month, for some unknown reason, my payment arrived at its office one day past the due date and it sent me a past-due late notice.

Gosh, what a wonderful company to deal with, along with its exorbitant rates.

Is anyone home?

Last week I noticed that we hadn’t received our absentee ballots. We’re leaving for Europe this month and we wanted to be certain that we voted.

I telephoned the County Elections Department with no luck.

I listened to various automated messages that didn’t address my question. Finally, I reached a telephone number that just rang and rang with no answer.

I decided to “go to the top” and telephoned Mayor Kenoi’s office and listened to an answering machine with a voice that promised to return my call.

It was not returned.

That was five days ago.

Does anyone know when we might receive our absentee ballots?
