The U.S. Army is moving ahead with plans to upgrade Pohakuloa Training Area on Saddle Road.
But before Army officials can complete a programmatic agreement regarding treatment of historic properties, the Army needs to complete its ongoing consultation process under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, officials said Friday.
Specifically, the Army is talking about the impact of building a new Infantry Platoon Battle Course and supporting infrastructure. Army officials last year said the course would cover roughly 110 acres and include an access road and a range operations center with a control tower. The proposed course will be built within the existing impact area at PTA and will provide a range that meets the current and foreseeable standards and requirements for Army training, officials said.
