The Lobos, in their first year under former Notre Dame coach and ESPN broadcaster Bob Davie, have relied heavily on their run game. They rank eighth nationally in rushing offense (271.7 yards per game) while UH ranks 106th in rushing defense (214.0). UH has allowed 969 yards rushing in its last three games. … In a 35-14 home win against Texas State last week, the Lobos attempted only three passes, but running back Kasey Carrier rushed for a career-high 191 yards and four touchdowns and earned league player of the week honors. … Hawaii junior quarterback Sean Schroeder has started all five games, completing 87 of 157 passes for 812 yards for seven touchdowns and five interceptions. Freshman running back Will Gregory leads the team with 351 yards rushing and two touchdowns. … Maybe the fact that it’s homecoming will spark UH. It’s won its past 10 such games. … The Lobos and Warriors haven’t hooked up since 1998, when New Mexico won its fourth straight in the series. However, UH owns the all-time advantage 14-7. … New Mexico is looking for its first win away from its home state since 2007.

c Notes: The Rainbow Wahine have made a smooth transition to the Big West, winning their first seven league matches. The first win in that streak was a five-set victory (19-17 in Game 5) at Cal State Northridge on Sept. 19. … UH junior outside hitter Emily Hartong is the reigning league player of the week, and she leads the conference with 4.27 kills per set. Sophomore Kalei Adolpho leads the league in hitting percentage and is fourth in blocks. … With sophomore outside hitter Jane Croson on indefinite suspension, junior Ashley Kastl took on a bigger role during UH’s recent road trip, posting season high kills (11) and digs (10) against UC Santa Barbara… Hawaii (.268) is first in the league in hitting percentage, while the Matadors (.215) are third. Junior outside hitter Britney Graff leads Northridge with 2.77 kills per set.
