Konanui graduates from basic training

Air Force Airman Brandee P. Konanui graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Konanui is the daughter of Brandon Konanui of Hilo and Kristine Nishimoto of Keaau.

She is a 2011 graduate of Kamehameha Schools Hawaii, Keaau.

Hayward completes Navy basic training

Navy Seaman Stephen C. Hayward, son of Julie A. and Stephen C. Hayward of Kailua-Kona, recently completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Hayward completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

Hayward is a 2010 graduate of Makua Lani Christian School in Kailua-Kona.

Kaoiwi graduates senior officer school

Army National Guard Lt. Col. Moses Kaoiwi has graduated from the U.S. Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, Carlisle, Pa., and earned a master’s degree in strategic studies. The college is the Army’s senior educational institution.

The 10-month curriculum of the Army’s senior officer school is designed to prepare and train officers of all the U.S. military branches of service, foreign military officers, as well as senior civilian officials of federal agencies, to serve in top-level command and staff positions with the U.S. Armed Forces worldwide.

Kaoiwi is a brigade executive officer assigned to the 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team at Kapolei, Oahu. The lieutenant colonel has served in the military for 28 years. He is a resident of Pearl City, Oahu.

Kaoiwi graduated in 1983 from Hilo High School, and received a bachelor’s degree in 2001 from the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
