The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended a high surf advisory for the Big Island’s west- and north-facing shores through 6 a.m. Thursday.

The service forecast waves ranging from 10 feet to 15 feet. It anticipates surf will subside Thursday.

A high surf advisory means high surf could affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach erosion, according to the service.
