Jeane Kubera

Jeane “Harpo” Kubera, 75, of Keaau died Sept. 6 at home. Born Jan. 16, 1937, in Chicago, he was a retired truck driver for Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Co.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 6 at Gilbert Carvalho Park, 860 Waianuenue Ave., Hilo, for a a celebration of life. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by sons, Anthony (Maria) Kubera and Rick (Paula Modjeska) Kubera, both of Pahoa; daughter, Debra Agbayani of Keaau; sisters, Rose (Wil) Stafford of Huntley, Ill., Janice Johnson of Coloma, Mich.; five grandsons; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Stephen Porter

Stephen Wayne Porter, 59, of Keaau died Sept. 25 at his home. Born Oct. 30, 1952, in Cumberland County, Pa., he was a carpenter, mason, Marine Corps veteran and member of Pahoa Solid Rock Ministries.

No services are planned.

He is survived by sons, Stephen Porter of Honolulu, Jeremy (Annette) Porter of Hilo, Justin Porter of Kalaheo, Kauai; daughters, Jenny Kwon of Honolulu, Alicia Porter of Keaau; parents, Stewart and Peggy Porter Sr. of Carlisle, Pa.; brothers, Stewart Porter Jr., Dennis Porter, John Porter and Eddie Bird, all of Carlisle, Pa.; sister, Cherry (Edward) Ellis of Aspers, Pa.; 19 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Ligea Painter

Ligea McCracken Painter, 94, of Kailua-Kona died Sept. 28 at a private residence. Born Dec. 17, 1917, in Afton, Okla., she was a former teacher, a former airline stewardess for the former Continental Airlines and member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and Calabash Cousins of the Daughters of Hawaii and life member of the Kona Outdoor Circle and P.E.O.

Services will be held at a later date.

She is survived by sons, Steven (Carla) Painter of Spencer, Iowa, Douglas (Amelia) Painter of Fostoria, Iowa; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one niece; one nephew.

James Kamiya

James Kenichi Kamiya, 94, of Hilo died Sept. 16 at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born March 19, 1918, in Kekaha, Kauai, he was retired from the Army Civil Service Motor Pool Division, also retired from the state Department of Education Maintenance Division, a World War II Army veteran and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

He is survived by wife, Elsie Kamiya of Hilo; daughters, Charlene (George) Nakashima of Volcano, Merlene (Ronald) Nitta of Hilo; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
