Police closed Hualalai Road Friday afternoon because of a brush fire near Hualalai Elderly Housing in an attempt to cut off the fire’s northern side.
Hawaii Fire Department has evacuated Hualalai Elderly Housing residents because of the fire, which is mauka of Kuakini Highway.
Officials are asking the public to avoid the area.
