Lawrence “Larry” Ray Smith, 88, of Hilo, formerly of Maui, died Sept. 20 at the Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Seaside, Ore., he was the retired owner and manager of the Westport Aquarium in Washington. He was also a member of the Kinoole Baptist Church and Clam Diggers Union, as well as a Navy veteran during World War II.

Private services were held.

He is survived by wife, Evelyn Smith of Hilo; sons, Stephen (Denise) Lee Smith of Olympia, Wash., David Bradford Smith of Haiku, Maui; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
