Historical sunset cruise slated Oct. 14

John Mitchell will present a historical narrative prepared by Jean Greenwell on a Kona Historical Society boat tour of the Kona Coast from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 14.

The tour, aboard the catamaran Fair Wind II, starts and ends at Keauhou Bay and includes Kahaluu, Kealakekua and Honaunau bays. It will pass historic sites, including the Holua at Keauhou, the battle site of Kuamoo, Kealakekua Bay, the battle site of Mokuohai at Keei and Puuhonou o Honaunau.

Sightings of whales and dolphins are often an added treat.

Reservations are $65 for society members; $75 for nonmembers. There will be a no-host bar on the boat. Check-in time is 1:45 p.m. at Keauhou Pier.

HELCO hosts energy fair in Hilo Saturday

Hawaii Electric Light Co. will hold its HELCO in Our Community Energy Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Prince Kuhio Plaza.

The free event will include educational displays, interactive exhibits and hands-on activities where attendees can learn about electricity generation, power distribution, renewable energy and electrical safety.

The fair also features demonstrations by school robotics programs, electric vehicles and live entertainment featuring performances by Halau Na Lei Hiwahiwa O Kuualoha, Energy in Motion Dance Company and the Waiakea Intermediate School Ukulele Band.

Attendees who visit each of the exhibits and submit their completed “energy passport” will receive a free reusable bag.
