Buck Hamano

Buck Hamano

Buck Michio Hamano, 83, of Hilo died Sept. 6 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired clerk with Global Associates on Kwajalein Atoll.

Private services were held.

He is survived by brother, Masaaki (Eloise) Hamano, of Oahu; sister, Kiyoko (Shinji) Fujishige, of Oahu; numerous nieces and nephews.

Hameed Hunter

Hameed Lafolia Hunter, 59, of Hilo, died on Sept. 13 at Hilo Medical Center. He was born on June 1, 1953, in St. Louis. He had a degree in psychology/sociology from the University of California, Santa Cruz and worked in social services with numerous organizations. Private services will be held. He is survived by companion Jan Johnson of Hilo; son Brandon Hameed Hunter of Ben Lomond, Calif.; mother Lillian Hunter of San Diego; brothers Nathan Clay of Minnesota, Juan Hunter and Majeed Hunter of Northern California; sisters, Janice McNeil of Southern California and Frances Buris of Virginia; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Rosalie VanderHoek

Rosalie VanderHoek, 81, of Kailua-Kona died Sept. 19 at Kona Community Hospital. Born Oct. 6, 1930, in Orange County, Calif., she was a retired PBX operator for the former Royal Waikoloan, Kona Surf Resort and Islander Inn.

Private services will be held at a later date.

She is survived by sons, Gene VanderHoek of Kalaoa, James VanderHoek and Joel VanderHoek, both of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Dena Rabara of Kalaoa; sisters Martha (Paul) Pullen of Chico, Calif., Jeanne Pedersen, of Pittsburg, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Deacon Henry

Deacon Keta Henry, 60, of Hilo died Sept. 8 at Hilo Medical Center. He was born in Arno Atoll, Marshall Islands.

He is survived by wife Rose Henry of Hilo; son Henry Henry of Hilo; brothers Joram Joram and Jolet Joram, both of Seattle; sisters Akta Alex and Kamila Lako, both of Honolulu, Jene Joseph of Ka‘u; numerous nieces and nephews.

Kiyoko Shirasaki

Kiyoko Shirasaki, 85, of Keaau died Sept. 18 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Olaa, she retired as a harvester for Mauna Loa Mac Nut.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. Sept. 26 at Puna Hongwanji for a 5 p.m. service. The family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by daughters Cheryl (Alvin) Nakagawa of San Jose, Calif.; Lois Iwashita of Keaau; brother, Eiji (Sadame) Sato of California; sisters Fujie (Roy) Chikuami and Eiko (Robert) Hokama, both of Hilo; Ruth Shigematsu of Honokaa, Mitsue Shirasaki of Keaau; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard Milari

Richard “Lee” Milari, 72, of Kailua-Kona, died Sept. 8 at Kona Community Hospital. Born Oct. 8, 1939, in Pahala, he was a chef for Kona Bay Restaurant and a culinary chef for various restaurants in Nevada.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Sept. 29 at Calvary Community Church, 76-4295 Leilani St., Kailua-Kona, for a 10 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn. Lei and flowers welcome.

He is survived by sisters Barbara (Morgan) Leleiwi of Kailua-Kona, Thelma (Bob) Macomber, Debra (Sanford) Sasaki and Earlene Kaiawe, all of Kalaoa, Jasmine Bledsoe of Oklahoma, Sonyamae Fukushima of Captain Cook; brothers, Thomas (Lei) Gomes of Honalo, Lyle (Dawn) Gomes and Francis Ng Sr., both of Kailua-Kona, Lance (Donna) Gomes of South Carolina, Charles (Karen) Nahale of Honaunau, Joseph (Aleta) Nahale of Ocean View; numerous nieces and nephews.
