Hilo High School rode a balanced pin attack to edge rival Waiakea 2-1 in a Big Island Interscholastic Federation boys bowling match on Saturday at Hilo Lanes.

Davin Yagi and Kendrick Dacayanan led the Vikings with 500-plus series. Yagi had high games of 180 and 196 on his way to a 523 series. Dacayanan rolled high games of 183 and 192 on his way to a 521 series.

John Kaipo (188, 223) led the Warriors with a 578 series. Teammates Ashton Flores (190) and Prayse Chung (171, 160) also had solid outings.

The win by the Vikings was a key victory since each school only battles each other one time during the regular season. The top four teams then advance to the league’s team playoffs.

In an important girls match, Hilo swept Waiakea 3-0 behind the strong performances from Briahna Brooks (187, 226) and Lakisha Victorino-Hose (153, 165). Brooke Caseria led the Warriors with a high game of 156.

BIIF action continues Sept. 22 at Hilo Lanes. At 10 a.m., it’s St. Joseph vs. Konawaena, Kamehameha-Hawaii vs. Keaau and Pahoa vs. Kealakehe. At 1 p.m., it’s St. Joseph vs. Waiakea, Kamehameha vs. Konawaena and Ka‘u vs. Kealakehe.
