The University of Hawaii at Manoa master of social work degree program is available through distance education technology. Information sessions will be held on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Queen Liliuokalani Children’s Center in Kailua-Kona and from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at University of Hawaii Center, West Hawaii, Building 2, Room A1, in Kealakekua.

Park planning public meeting slated Sept. 27
The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation will hold a Kealakehe Regional Park Master Plan public information meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Community Meeting Hale, Building G, at the West Hawaii Civic Center.
The department is preparing a master plan for a regional park on a 190-acre site in Kealakehe. The planning effort will develop a vision for the development of the park over the next 20 years.
Attendees will learn more about the planning process and discuss what recreational activities and land uses should be at the park. This is the first of three planned public meetings.

Library hosting soap program
Friends of the Libraries, Kona is sponsoring a program featuring Greg Colden of the Kona Natural Soap Co. from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Coldenwill explain the process of cold-processed vegan soap making and also the health benefits of using essential oils, which are plant distillations, for one’s well-being. The presentation will also explain the harmful effects of repeated use of detergents and petrochemicals contained in commercially made soaps and shampoos.Kona Natural Soap is made at Kokoleka Lani Farms in Holualoa.
There will also be a discussion of how cacao, coffee, citrus, papayas, mangos, bananas and pineapples, grown on the farm, are incorporated in many of the soap formulas.

Prostate cancer support group meets Wednesday
The Prostate Cancer Information and Support Group meets at noon Wednesday at the King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel pool bar. Newly diagnosed and prostate cancer survivors and their caregivers are welcome.
The meeting is free; lunch may be purchased.

The mayor’s Committee on People with Disabilities meets at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Aging and Disability Resource Center training room, 1055 Kinoole St., Hilo.

The Mauna Kea Soil and Water Conservation District meets from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service’s service center located at 67-1185 Mamalahoa Highway, Suite 148, Waimea.
