On Saturday, the Konawaena boys and girls went on a roll while chalking up impressive wins in Big Island Interscholastic Federation action at Kona Bowl.
While sweeping Ka‘u 3-0, the Wildcat boys torched the lanes for an eye-popping 1,017 pin total in the first game and 1,022 in the second game before cooling off to a 971 in Game 3.
Four different Konawaena bowlers had 200-plus games in the afternoon session with Rodney Torres (248, 235) rolling a 663 series and Stefan Kimura (230, 219, 206) finishing with a 655 series.
Teammates Tyler Hashimoto (223, 203) and Conrad Hildebrand (202) also had strong performances.
In a morning 3-0 sweep over Pahoa, Hashimoto (213, 190), Torres (195, 182), Kimura (201) and Quentin Ikeno (182) led the Wildcats’ charge. Peter Ferriera led the Daggers with a high game of 202, and Laureto Julian had a 141.
The Konawaena girls also had a big day with sweeps over the Trojans and Daggers. Against Ka‘u, Melissa Simon (243, 203) rolled a 615 series, while teammates Sarah Albrecht (202) and Madison Staup (193, 184) added high games. Siena Okamoto led the visitors with a 150 high game.
Against Pahoa, Simon (183), Staup (181), Albrecht (193, 190) and Jordan Pond (187) led the way.
Randi-Lee Berinobis had a high game of 146, and Lohe Kaawaloa had a 136 for the Daggers.
There were 12 bowlers who had high games of 200 or better on Saturday. The list also included Kealakehe’s Harley Jarvis (224), Mika Parish (242), Tiffany Kurozawa (215) and Desiree Ichishita (218); Pahoa’s Peter Ferreira (202) and Waiakea’s Kylan Sakata (217, 203, 604 series).
BIIF action continues at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Hilo Lanes with St. Joseph vs. Keaau, Kamehameha vs. Waiakea, Ka‘u vs. Pahoa, Hilo vs. Laupahoehoe, according to BIIF bowling coordinator Chloe Thurston, the St. Joseph athletic director.
