HONOLULU — Hawaii guard Zane Johnson is getting a shot at professional basketball in Japan with a one-year deal with the Fukuoka Rizing.
Hawaii officials said Monday that last year’s co-captain signed a deal with the Basketball Japan League team after working out earlier this summer for the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks.
Johnson averaged 14 points per game as a senior and led the team in 3-pointers and free throw percentage. He set a school record for the Rainbow Warriors with 180 3-pointers made in his career, even though he played just two seasons with the team.
Fukuoka finished 33-19 last year, fifth in the league’s western division.
