Senior ID cards to be issued in September
The Coordinated Services for the Elderly Program of the Hawaii County Elderly Activities Division will issue senior ID cards for seniors 60 years and older from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 5 at Walmart in Kailua-Kona.
The staff will also issue cards from 9 to 11 a.m. Sept. 10 at the Kohala CSE Courthouse; 9 to 10 a.m. Sept. 10 at the Pahala Hawaii Housing Center; 11 a.m. to noon Sept. 10 at the Naalehu Community Center; 9 to 11 a.m. Sept. 11 at the L. Yoshimatsu Senior Center in Waimea; 3 to 4 p.m. Sept. 24 at Hale Hauoli Senior Center in Honokaa; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 26 at West Hawaii Civic Center; and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 28 at Yano Hall in Captain Cook.

Flea market scheduled for Saturday in Waimea
A flea market, antiques and collectibles sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the New Hope Waimea gym. The indoor marketplace is free to the public and located at Church Row in Waimea.

Taste of the Hawaiian Range coming Sept. 21
Local grass-fed beef is the star of Mealani’s Taste of the Hawaiian Range set from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Hilton Waikoloa Village. Each of the more than 30 participating chefs gets a different cut — everything from nose to tail — and combines it with a cornucopia of local ingredients.
Some chefs will also serve other forage-fed meats: lamb, mutton, goat and U.S. Department of Agriculture-inspected wild boar.
Pre-event activities include “Grass-Fed Beef Cooking 101” presented by Four Seasons Resort Hualalai’s Chef James Babian at 3 p.m.
Tickets are available at tasteofthehawaiianrange.com. Tickets for the event are $40 in advance; $60 at the door. Admission to the cooking demo is $10.

Masons meeting
Sept. 5 in Kona
The Kona Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons will meet Sept. 5 at the Kona Masonic Center, 73-5577 Kauhola St., No. 7, Kailua-Kona. The activities will begin with a dinner at 6, followed by the meeting at 7 p.m.
All resident and visiting members of the craft are invited to attend both the dinner and meeting.

Tango lessons begin Sept. 10 in Walmea
Instructor Angel Prince will lead a six-week tango dance class for the Waimea Ballroom Dance Club on Mondays, beginning Sept. 10, at the Waimea Elementary School cafeteria.
The class costs $15 and participants may register at 6:30 p.m. before each of the first two lessons. Sessions run from 7 to 8 p.m. followed by a half-hour practice mixer.

Three Stone Coffee takes blind tasting crown
Java on the Rock Coffeehouse on Alii Drive won first place in the Chef’s Choice blind tasting category and second place in People’s Choice voting at the 2012 Cream of the Crop competition.
Three Stone Coffee, Java on the Rock’s signature Kona coffee noted for its rich and smooth flavor, was the winning entry. Organized by the Kona Coffee Council, the Cream of the Crop competition was held at the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai.
Parker School
hosts alumni reunion
Parker School recently hosted an all-alumni reunion. Several graduates from 1984 to 2012 and their families attended.
Members of the 2002 graduating class opened a time capsule in celebration of their 10th year reunion. The capsule was filled with mementos of their time at Parker and included items such as a baseball cap, a box of rice candy, student drawings and graduates’ notes to themselves.
The alumni were joined by faculty, staff, administration and past teachers to celebrate the occasion. Many of the earlier graduates were amazed to see how the campus had transformed and expanded from a middle and upper school to include kindergarten through fifth grades.
Graduates are encouraged to contact the alumni office at 885-8309 to reconnect, visit the campus and find out what their classmates and teachers are up to.
