Big Island police arrested a Waikoloa brother and sister last week in connection with three Waikoloa area burglaries.
Between Aug. 11 and 12, someone entered a Kehela Place house and removed jewelry, clothing and electronic equipment. A day later, someone broke into a Pakanu Street home and stole an electronic game device and games. A Waikoloa couple reported on Aug. 14 they saw a man leaving the driveway of their Lina-Poepoe Street home. The man claimed he had been in their back yard rescuing a dog from the swimming pool. When the victims went inside, they discovered a screen had been removed and two laptops were missing, according to the Hawaii Police Department.
South Kohala police officers determined the three cases were related.
On Aug. 20, police arrested 29-year-old Crystal Beban on suspicion of burglary for the first incident and recovered $500 worth of jewelry and clothing. Police also arrested her brother, 32-year-old Jeffry Wayne McBride Beban, on suspicion of two counts of criminal trespass and two counts of burglary for the other two incidents.
Crystal Beban was released pending further investigation. Jeffry Beban was held at the Kona police cell block until Aug. 22. The Police Department said he was then released while officers continue to investigate, gather further information and collect additional evidence.
