Rotarians give funds to Habitat for Humanity
The Rotary Club of Kona, Rotary Club of Kona Sunrise and Rotary Club of Kona Mauka recently presented Habitat for Humanity West Hawaii a $20,000 down payment check for an upcoming Blitz Build in Kona.
The $20,000 down payment is the first installment of money the clubs have raised towards their $85,000 fundraising goal.
Each year the local Rotary clubs focus on a particular project and this year they decided to join forces to support the Blitz Build.
Rotary’s $85,000 pledge will go toward a home to be built for Terrie Mamac and her family.
“This house is special as one of our Rotarians works at First Hawaiian Bank with Terrie. First Hawaiian Bank is also a major sponsor of our mission,” said Rotary Club of Kona President Alan Clark.
The Blitz Build is slated from Sept. 12 through 22 and will be building five homes in 10 days.

Breast cancer support group meets Tuesday
The breast cancer support group meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Teshima’s Restaurant in Honalo. People recently diagnosed with breast cancer, survivors and caregivers are welcome.

Kona Music Society sets open house, rehearsal
Artistic Director Susan McCreary Duprey and the Kona Music Society invite all interested singers to an open house rehearsal from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the band room at Kealakehe Intermediate School.

The group will perform its annual “Messiah” concert Nov. 25 and a holiday concert Dec. 16.
Kona Stories hosts keiki story time
Kona Stories bookstore will host a story time for children ages 3 to 6 at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Keauhou Shopping Center courtyard.
The event, held with assistance from the American Association of University Women, will feature stories and crafts centered on the “Max and Ruby” book series.
A $5 participation fee to cover crafts and snacks will be collected. Space is limited to 30 children; make a reservation by calling 324-0350. Check in is 10 minutes early at Kona Stories.
Seniors group gathers to share recipes
The Kailua-Kona Seniors will meet for a cookie potluck at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hale Halawai in Kailua-Kona.
Members are asked to bring cookies and their favorite recipes to share; and bring paper or cards to copy the recipes of others.
Any recipes may be shared, not just those for cookies.

Labor Day weekend
In observance of the Labor Day holiday, all public libraries will be closed Saturday through Sept. 3.
Kealakekua Public Library, normally closed on Thursdays, will be open Aug. 30.
