Export University returning to island

Export University returning to island

Export University returns to Big Island Wednesday through Aug. 31 at the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority’s Hawaii Gateway Energy Center in Kona. Through funding from the U.S. Small Business Administration and the Hawaii Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, Export University 101 will be offered along with a new training, Export University 201: a one-day course on best use of international social media and e-commerce, which has been met with positive reviews.

The cost for Export University 101 is $100 for the two-day course from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and Export University 201 is $25 for the one-day course from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 31. For companies that attend both 101 and 201, participants can attend the course for $110, a $15 savings. Space is limited.

Companies may also be able to take part in a cost-share program aimed at encouraging companies to conduct international business abroad. Eligible participating companies can receive up to $2,000 each to use for export-related business travel to their target market through the U.S. Small Business Administration and the state DBEDT’s STEP program and funds granted by the state Department of Agriculture.

For more information or register for the workshops, contact Lesley Harvey at 457-7100 or lharvey@hawaiiexportsupport.com.

Hawaiian Host
seeks host-ess

Hawaiian Host Inc. has launched “The Great Hawaiian Host-ess” campaign to find an individual whose looks and personality best exemplify the gracious spirit of the company.

“We have long been recognized for being the originators of the chocolate macadamias and classic postcard style box,” said Hawaiian Host CEO and President Keith Sakamoto. “Now we are planning to update some of the look and feel of our products and will be utilizing this campaign as a catalyst for the change.”

To be considered, individuals must visit hawaiianhost.com or facebook.com/HawaiianHostInc and click on the Great Hawaiian Host-ess Search link. Follow the steps to upload a photo. Information about entries, rules and prizes is also available on the company website and Facebook page. The deadline to enter is Oct. 31.

Ten finalists will be notified in November and then undergo a final interview with a panel of judges. One winner will be selected to receive a monetary gift and a year’s worth of Hawaiian Host chocolate. The winner will also receive an opportunity to be featured in Hawaiian Host advertising material.
