Oahu-based military units will convoy from Pohakuloa Training Area to Kawaihae Harbor between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Monday and Wednesday via Saddle Road, Mamalahoa Highway, Waikoloa Road, Queen Kaahumanu Highway and Kawaihae Road.
The convoys will have military escorts front and rear. Motorists are advised to be alert and drive safely.
The PTA Department of Army police are working with local authorities and military units to coordinate this activity in support of unit training.

‘Aloha Buddha’ to play Sunday in Kealakekua
The Kona Hongwanji Junior Youth Buddhist Association and Kona Boyz 4-H Club will screen “Aloha Buddha” at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Kona Hongwanji Temple Social Hall in Kealakekua.
The film, a documentary about the unique form of Japanese Buddhism practiced in Hawaii, won the Audience Appreciation Award for Best Documentary at the 2011 Hawaii International Film Festival.
DVDs of “Aloha Buddha” will be sold at the screening.

Registration open for poke, falsetto contests
Hawaii Island Festival is accepting entries for its poke and falsetto contests scheduled for Sept. 8 at Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort and Spa.
Festivities kick off at 12:30 p.m. when “Hawaii’s soul food” takes the stage at the Alii Ballroom. Home cooks and professional chefs will compete against their peers for the championship, and after the judges announce the winners, the audience gets to taste, too.

The Clyde “Kindy” Sproat Falsetto and Storytelling Contest begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Naupaka Ballroom. Park plans celebration for new quarter
The public is invited to the United States Mint’s ceremonial release event for the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park quarter from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the park’s kahua hula.
HFS Federal Credit Union will provide $10 rolls of the commemorative quarters for exchange.
The new quarter is the 14th in the mint’s series of 56 circulating America the Beautiful Quarters. The coin features an engraved image of an eruption on Kilauea’s East Rift Zone on its reverse side, designed and sculpted by Charles L. Vickers.
All coins in the series share a common obverse side, featuring a portrait of George Washington.
Hawaii County Tourism Specialist Stephanie Donoho will serve as master of ceremonies, and representatives from the U.S. Mint, governor’s office and state officials will participate.
The hahua hula is located south of Kilauea Visitor Center, on Crater Rim Drive. The event is free, but park entrance fees apply.
