The Hawaii Stars rallied for three runs in the ninth inning but came up short in an 8-6 loss to Na Koa Ikaika Maui on Thursday night at Iron Maehara Stadium on the Valley Isle.
Hawaii (24-27) made four errors behind starter Dallas Mahan, who allowed eight runs in six innings in the third of a six-game set that will finish its inaugural season in the North American Baseball League.
Mahan (0-7) gave up 12 hits and two walks, and struck out one. Cortney Arruda pitched two scoreless innings in relief, striking out four.
Vinnie St. John struck out Jason Thomas with a runner on second for the last out.
Reggie York and Arnoldo Ponce each had a pair of hits to lead the Stars.
Jesse Smith earned the win with six innings of two-run ball.
St. John pitched an inning for the save, allowing three runs.
Waylen Sing Chow batted 2-for-5, Chema Sanchez was 2-for-3, and Joe Kala went 2-for-5 with two RBIs to lead Maui (31-26).
