Mehmet “Ray” Rasin Tek, 85, of Kailua-Kona, died Aug. 13 at his residence. Born Jan. 6, 1927, in Istanbul, he worked in the petroleum business before becoming a professor at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Private services will be held later. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor his memory are urged to donate to a chosen charity.

He is survived by wife, Gretchen Tek, of Kailua-Kona; sons, Deniz (Anne Laurent) Tek, of Sydney, Kurt (Holly) Tek, of Tucson, Ariz., Karl (Carla) Tek, of Ann Arbor, Mich.; sister, Resan (Saim) Giray, of Columbus, Ohio; eight grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
