Hilo man charged in burglary

Big Island police have charged 53-year-old Hilo resident Brian Wade Pacheco in connection with a home burglary in Hilo.

Big Island police have charged 53-year-old Hilo resident Brian Wade Pacheco in connection with a home burglary in Hilo.

At 2 p.m. Friday, after conferring with prosecutors, Pacheco was charged with one count of first-degree burglary and one count of second-degree theft. His bail was set at $35,000. He is being held at the Hilo police cell block and his initial court appearance was Monday, according to the Hawaii Police Department.

On June 14, shortly after noon, police responded to a call from a 67-year-old Hilo man reporting someone had broken into the house and removed several items with a total estimated value of $1,200.

Area I Criminal Investigations Section detectives arrested Pacheco at 2 a.m. Friday. A portion of the items allegedly stolen have been recovered, police said.

Those who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
