Misconceptions

Your article on Florida seniors who self-medicate with cannabis (marijuana) was both fascinating and timely. Seventeen states have legalized the medical use of cannabis, but Florida is not one of them. So the fact seniors would knowingly break the law to medicate themselves testifies to the effectiveness of cannabis for treating chronic pain.

Over 100 million Americans suffer with chronic pain. The sad fact is prescription pain medications such as oxycodone, hydrocodone, and methadone are addicting, constipating, and extremely dangerous. The leading cause of death for people age 25-55 is now accidental drug overdose, with the vast majority (80 percent) of these being prescription drug overdoses.

Cannabis has never been known to cause even a single death by overdose. Cannabis is relatively non-addicting, can relieve pain, spasms and nausea within two or three minutes if used by smokeless vaporizer.

So why is cannabis still federally classified with heroin as a forbidden “drug” when it is clearly a safe and effective medication?

A classic study in Minnesota found 75 percent of people supported legalizing medical cannabis, yet when the same people were asked if they thought their neighbors supported medical cannabis, 75 percent said no.

Maybe we just need to speak up for what we know is right.

Green Harvest

No police assistance

They were flying over our heads again today. We really don’t need “Green Harvest” doing their grid pattern over our subdivisions, anymore.

Our county voters’ “Quiet Skies Ordinance” is not being enforced by our county officials. If the feds want to fly, they should not be assisted by our police.

Our mayor should back the voters and tell the feds not to fly over subdivisions where people live. They can fly over state and government land, but not over the heads of the people.

We have a right to our quiet enjoyment of our property without being disturbed. I’m not bothering you or anyone on my property. Don’t bother me.
