Benjamin “Uncle Ben” Torres, 76, of Mountain View died Aug. 2 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired E.E. Black Construction masonry on Oahu.

He is survived by wife, Rosemarie Torres of Mountain View; son, David (Beatrice) Torres of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Bernadette (Thomas) Salas of Hilo, Gertrude Dorr Malupo of Washington; stepsons, Harold Joseph (Michelle) Germano Jr. of Kailua-Kona, Olival (Vicky) Germano of Hilo, Tom (Dawn) Germano of Hilo, Anthony (Janice) Maldonado of Hilo; sisters, Mabel Garcia of Hilo, Bella Flores of Hilo, Josephine (Howard) Nash of Hilo, Barbara Jackson of Hilo, Betty Lou Torres of Hilo; 27 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
