Big Island detectives have charged a 31-year-old Kona man and 30-year-old Kona woman in connection with a road rage incident.
At approximately 3:15 p.m. Aug. 1, Kona patrol officers responded to a reported road rage incident in Kailua-Kona. They received information that a maroon Jeep driver had honked at a blue sedan after it reportedly cut her off while leaving the Kona Commons shopping center on Makala Boulevard. While both cars were stopped for a red light, the man driving the sedan and a female passenger reportedly exited the car and confronted the Jeep driver, according to the Hawaii Police Department.
After the confrontation, the Jeep had damage to the passenger door and the woman from the sedan had a small puncture wound to her forehead, police said.
A short time later, a Kona patrol officer stopped the Jeep driver on Henry Street. All three people were arrested for their roles in the confrontation, police said.
The sedan driver, 31-year-old David F. Torres Jr. of Kailua-Kona, was arrested on suspicion of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle and criminal property damage. His wife, 30-year-old Shaundalinn Torres, was arrested on suspicion of assault and unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle. The Jeep driver, 42-year-old Shannon Jensen, was arrested on suspicion of assault. None of them required medical treatment, police said.
On Aug. 3, Area II Criminal Investigations Section detectives charged Torres Jr. with unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle and criminal property damage. His bail was set at $11,000. His wife was charged with unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle and third-degree assault. Her bail was set at $12,000. They are being held at the Kona police cellblock pending their initial court appearance scheduled for today.
Jensen was released from police custody pending further investigation.
