A Kona man who was out on bail after an arrest last month for driving a stolen car was recently arrested in another stolen car.
At 6:30 a.m. Aug. 1, an off-duty Honokaa patrol officer observed a stolen Honda Accord being driven in a reckless manner on Highway 19 heading west. The officer called for assistance and continued following the car, which had been reported as stolen earlier that morning from a Waimea shopping center. The Honda left the highway and came to a stop at a dead end on Palikekua Street in Honokaa. The driver then fled on foot, according to the Hawaii Police Department.
Police canvassed the area and were later alerted by area residents that a person matching the driver’s description had been seen leaving nearby bushes. Officers arrested 22-year-old Jesse Travis Ralston of Kailua-Kona on Plumeria Street in Honokaa at 10:20 a.m. He was taken to the Kona police cell block while Area II Criminal Investigations Section detectives continued the investigation.
At 2:19 p.m. Thursday, detectives charged Ralston with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, theft and reckless driving. He is being held in lieu of $31,000 bail pending his initial court appearance scheduled Aug. 3.
Ralson was charged July 19 with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle after being arrested in another stolen car. He was released that night after posting $2,000 bail, police said.
