Firefighters on Saturday quickly doused a brush fire ignited by a two-car crash on Saddle Road near mile marker 50.
Responding to a 10:34 a.m. report, firefighters determined two vehicles had collided with one catching fire, according to the Hawaii Fire Department. The flames subsequently spread to brush along the makai side of the road.
The fire burned about 1 acre of federal land before firefighters were able to get it under control about a half-hour after arriving, according to the department. The scene was then turned over to the Pohakuloa Training Area’s fire department for mop-up efforts.
No injuries were reported. Saddle Road was closed for about an hour while personnel were on scene.
