Oahu-based military units will convoy from Kawaihae Harbor to Pohakuloa Training Area today between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
The convoys will travel via Kawaihae Road, Queen Kaahumanu Highway, Waikoloa Road, Mamalahoa Highway and Saddle Road.
The convoys will have Hawaii Police Department escorts front and rear during their trip. Motorists are advised to be alert and drive with care.
The PTA Department of Army police are working closely with local authorities and military units to coordinate this activity in support of unit training.

Cruise Night features muscle cars
Lanihau Center’s July 21 Cruise Night celebrates American muscle cars from the 1960s and ’70s and will also feature an information table for Neighborhood Place of Kona. The 6 to 9 p.m. event is presented in the former Bank of Hawaii parking lot facing Palani Road and is free to the public and participants with all makes of cars, trucks and motorcycles.
Factory hot rods from General Motors, Ford and Chrysler Corp. will be lined up on either side of the DJ tent at the center of the event and will be the lead vehicles in the 7:30 p.m. parade around the shopping center parking lot. Muscle car owners are invited to share the all-free evening with more than 50 other hot rods, sports cars, antiques and imports.
Each month the Lanihau Center merchants invite a different local nonprofit charity to meet the public at Cruise Nights. This Saturday, Neighborhood Place of Kona is featured. The nonprofit focuses on the well-being of families and the prevention of child abuse and neglect in the Kona community. There will be information and staff members at its donation table.
Prizes will be awarded every half hour from 6:30 through 8:30 p.m. Everyone making a donation to Neighborhood Place of Kona will receive tickets. Prizes from Lanihau Center merchants will be featured.
Additional lighting for the show parking area will be provided by Transmission Technology with kokua from Service Rentals of Kona.

Aloha Quilters of Kona meets Saturday
The Aloha Quilters of Kona monthly meeting begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church’s Wallace Hall in Kealakekua. Donna Fear will demonstrate her machine binding technique.
Aloha Quilters of Kona is composed of quilters working in both traditional and Hawaiian styles. The group meets informally on the third Saturday of each month to share new ideas and techniques and to promote the art of quilting in the community. New members, novice or “old hands” are welcome.

Parents’ Day ‘walking meditation’ planned
The Pacific Rim Education Foundation and Hawaiian Queen Coffee will honor Parents’ Day by sponsoring a “walking meditation” at 5 p.m. Sunday at Old Kona Airport Park. The idea is to honor our parents, recall their love and enjoy the silence.
In 1994, President Bill Clinton’s signature on a Congressional resolution established the fourth Sunday of every July as national Parents’ Day. The day is held for “recognizing, uplifting and supporting the role of parents.”
Jill Wagner, of Kona’s Cloud Forest Temple, will provide a brief introduction to “walking meditation.” The walk will start at Makaeo Walking and Jogging Path’s central lawn, near the main entrance. It will be followed both by light refreshments and time for voluntary sharing about parents.

Marine management plan to be aired
The Marine Reserve Subcommittee of the West Hawaii Fisheries Council invites the public to an informational session on the proposed marine management plan within the existing Kaupulehu Fish Replenishment Area. Visitors will have a chance to ask questions and talk with members of the Kaupulehu Marine Life Advisory Committee, a volunteer group dedicated to restoring sustainable fishing to their home.

Kona Underwater Photographic Society meeting July 25
The Kona Underwater Photographic Society will hold its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. July 25 at the Imin Center in Holualoa.
During the evening, attendees will have the opportunity to view all entries and judge video entries submitted by members who participated in a four-day photo shoot earlier in the month. The public is invited to attend the meeting and view the photos taken from around the island of Hawaii.
If time permits, members will also share recent images not entered in the competition. These must be in digital format either on memory stick, DVD , or CD with maximum dimensions of 1024-by-768 pixels.
The center will open at 5:30 p.m. and all current members and guests are invited to a potluck barbecue.
The Imin Center is located off Highway 180, just north of Holualoa.
