Big Island detectives have charged Shaylyn Momi Araw, 20, of Pepeekeo in connection with a burglary last week.
Police responded to a reported burglary in progress July 5 on Maukaloa Street in Pepeekeo, where neighbors reportedly observed a woman running from a residence around 11:30 a.m. Responding officers checked the house and determined an attempt had been made to gain entry, causing damage to a glass pane.
Neighborhood checks conducted throughout the area led to possible identification of the responsible person. Investigation revealed the suspect may have been injured as a result of the attempted entry and then fled the scene in a vehicle. At 1 p.m., police arrested Araw in the Paukaa area of Hilo.
Area I Criminal Investigations Section detectives charged Araw with attempted first-degree burglary, a Class B felony, on July 6. The alleged driver of a get-away vehicle, Robert N. Navor, 21, of Pepeekeo was also arrested, but was subsequently released without charges, police said.
